[Warning for child/family death]
Adelaide's parents, Madalene and Fabrice, were two widely successful inventors, well known among other inventors not just for their advancements in technology, but for their giving and truly caring personalities. Helping those in need was what drove them to invent, to make life easier for not just the rich, but everyone. They were well known for the donations they regularly made, and the people they helped, and all in all, they were greatly admired. It was easy to forgive their somewhat eccentric personalities; in fact, their personalities were likely what made them such a power couple.
By the time she reached adulthood, Adelaide's interest in music had opened doors to a career path she'd dreamed of since she was little. She'd been through years of vocal training, involved in the school choir, and by now, had picked up a bit of piano as well. She'd been hired as a vocalist for a few smaller bands and venues, but she wanted more, she wanted to be famous across Ruby Island. And as she went on, she seemed to be in luck. She was growing in popularity; more and more people were attending her concerts, buying her records, and more bands sought out collaboration with her.
Her 20’s were easily the highest point in her career. Her popularity was booming more than she thought it would be, her concerts and live performances packed and she was easily recognized on the streets. Interest in her music was high, and even higher was her inspiration to keep singing and creating music. She became adept at piano, and it became part of her signature sound, as signature as her singing itself. There were certainly more famous singers out there at the time, but Adelaide didn’t need that kind of fame. Her music was playing all over Tincaster; some of her songs were even played over radio to whole region! She often travelled at this point as well; mostly to play music on other islands, but for the sightseeing as well. These years were the happiest of her life.
When she was 30, tragedy struck. She’d travelled to Seasong City to perform, but her family had stayed behind, save for Isabella. Those who’d stayed behind would be travelling the next day, taking a train out to Ruby Port and sailing to Seasong City for her performance. Unfortunately, they never made it. Adelaide was devastated to hear about the fatal train crash to Ruby Port, which had left no survivors in the Dubois family. Adelaide was left with her 17 year old sister, her family fortune, and a shattered heart in her care.
The following two years were a grief-riddled haze, and to this day she remembers little of it. She remembers little of the funeral, of how the maids took the responsibility of raising Isabella, of how so many people whose lives had been touched by the Dubois family had come to pay their respects. Her career was left forgotten before it had finally taken off, her singing only playing in memories of others. She doesn't remember specifically what pulled her out of her year long depression, only the drive to be the caretaker and sister that Isabella deserves. Her bright spirit was what Isabella needed now. This realization was the beginning of Adelaide's recovery. Progress was slow, but eventually, she even found the will to sing again. The lighthearted music she'd once sung didn't hold the light it once did, though, and instead, she took to slower, more emotional music. Her singing was left more to those who knew her though, rather than an audience.
The next few years, she began rebuilding what life they'd once had. Isabella took up her parents' interest in inventing, a wish that her parents had never had fulfilled in their lifetime. It was something far beyond what Adelaide could really comprehend, but she did her damnedest to be encouraging nonetheless, and supplied anything Isabella needed to keep this hobby afloat. The Dubois family, who had been known for its members of varying talents, was much quieter now, much less known, but this didn't bother the remaining duo. They were regaining their happiness and their life. It seemed to be going well, until the disaster struck. The Dubois house, which had been near the edge of town, had been destroyed, along with a well-loved maid and a good portion of their fortune. They had been out at the time, and escaped with minimal personal damages. While Isabella mourned the loss of a good portion of her inventions and materials, and they both mourned the loss of their maid, neither had much remaining attachment to the house they'd grown up in.
